C2A Implementation Plan
In September 2020, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) launched the Commitment to Action and engaged with a diverse cross-section of Edmontonians to reimagine community safety and well-being. The collective response gathered from communities, businesses, and social agencies was synthesized, compiled, and reported on by a third-party consultant in the Community Feedback Report released in November 2021.
Since then, our focus has shifted from the gathering of information to the implementation of solutions-focused actions to address community priorities and strengthen public trust. The Commitment to Action Implementation Plan outlines new and ongoing actions to support six priorities identified in the Community Feedback Report:
Relationship Building to foster and maintain productive relationships
Partnership Development to bring together diverse skills, community wisdom and resources to improve service delivery
Training and Development that includes empathy, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and trauma informed practices
Communication and Transparency to share information and ensure accountability
Innovation to develop creative solutions, innovative tools and approaches to community well-being
- Community Engagement to inform the changes Edmontonian want to see in policing

Before covid getting a background/vulnerable sector check could be done within one day and even a few minutes. In fact this speed is still the case in the RCMP stations in the surrounding area; The longest time I found was St. Albert at 2 business days.
Right now the official time to process a check is 5-10 business days. The average time appears to be 3-4 weeks and some as high as 60 days. My company recommended that we begin the process 90 days ahead of time.
Further since 2019, the business hours have been cut from 8.5 to 7 and closed entirely on Thursdays. This amounts to a grand total of 28 hours open per week down from the previous 39.5.
This is unacceptable. Working people need to be able to access public services outside their working hours. 4pm is absurdly early to close when at least on Thursdays it stayed open till 6.
Right now I'm being told that there are 3500 checks ahead of mine. This background check is mandatory for my job. My job is now in jeopardy because the government doesn't want to do theirs.
Simply put, I want:
1. The return of same day PIC/VSC for Edmonton residents.
2. Make PIC/vulnerable sector checks for Edmonton residents available through suddounding RCMP stations.
3. Allow any EPS station to carry out vulnerable sector/PIC checks for edmonton residents.
4. Return PIC station hours back to full time, pre-covid hours.
5. Automate the entire VSC/PIC process and allow normal people to submit and receive the above services immediately: Moving services online should ostensibly make the process easier, cheaper, and faster.
6. Do any or all of the above in combination.
With the increase in crime and violence at the LRT stations why are they not monitored by a police officer and added security. The expansion of the LRT system and the cost to the taxpayers of this city is all in vain when the public is too scared to take it and to send their children on it. Between the city of Edmonton City Council and the Edmonton Police Department I am sure that a solution can be found. Maybe turnstiles should be installed along with added security both which are not present now.
Chief McFee, my family and I want to thank you for your leadership in removal of encampments, both for the safety of those in the camps and for the safety of our community. We understand how complicated the issues are, and are impressed with how EPS is working with others to link those living in camps with resources to improve their quality of life.

It was recommended by the SOGIE Council, that I might be interested in this program. But it really is a sad representation of the lack of recent work done here and on the SOGIE Council. And Norman below clearly identifies that the Previous Report link opens to a SPAM website. As a Community Leader EPS should be ashamed by the inept ability to bring action on these important works and keep them updated!! I am sad this is how the EPS is woring to build better relationships.

Looking for the right place to commend the EPS force. Hope this is the right place to offer MANY THANKS for putting your lives on the line to defend against crimes in all their malicious and devious covers. Kudos to arresting 3 men stealing F150s. 5 years ago 3 men were rolling back odometers and sending trucks to USA and they were searching vehicle records for the last known low odometer reading - could not report it then. Just a back door use of electronic garage repair records. Anyway, just want the EPS officers, EPS supervisors and Commanders know that your services and efforts are noticed for the GREAT WORK THEY DO daily. Despite negative criticisms with your use of service pistols in line of service, I would hate to be put in situation forced to decide should I OR not? Perhaps use shot to NOT KILL but maim to some body part to disable, AND OFFICER TO TAKE COVER SOMEHOW. Anyway, thanks for your services from a 61 year old long-time female resident. Be safe for yourselves in the line of duty defending others DOES HAVE LIMITS you should not be asked to cross FOR US. Is a comment of respect for things really unknown to m, so THANKS X 1000 for doing those things for ME and OTHERS LIKE ME, just wanting safety and secure streets. For myself and those that do not reach you with admiration that do not have a way to express these admonitions. Have been mistaken for a criminal before and now cleared my record and name but it cost me over $2,500. Please do not be disheartened and think everyone you meet is a criminal.
